I own a 1999 Honda civic Cx and I’m swapping the engine for a B18B1 from a D16Y7 and I’m curious if I’ll need a new transmission too or would the current one still work? Attached image is the car I’m planning on doing this with.

The "D" series transmission will not bolt directly to a "B" series engine. A "B" series transmission will work in the chassis. You can also still purchase (I believe) a "B to D" conversion plate kit, but this is a really expensive route to go.

What would you suggest? A full swap or a conversion kit? Which would end up cheaper and which would be better overall for driving

A "B" series transmission (full swap) will be both cheaper and better for overall driving.
