Icon5 F22B2 Head Gasket Replacement

Hello, Honda-Tech.
I'm posting this thread because I can't seem to find the right answer. I need to replace the head gasket on my 1997 Honda Accord SE. I've rebuilt 2 2G DSM heads using the Cometic head gasket with much success and no issues (with copper spray). Finding the correct bore was straightforward and the rebuilds were easy. I'm new to Honda, though, and despite my knowledge of engines and such, I'm finding the bore size to be slightly confusing for the F22B2. According to the service manual, the bore is 85mm. the Cometic has options like 86 and 87 mm. The Felpro (according to Rockauto) is a bore of 87 mm. I just want to know, which bore size should I get? This is a daily driver, a completely stock Accord that blends into the crowd, so it hasn't been bored over or anything like that. The thickness, I'm thinking should be the .027 (please correct me if I am wrong). Thank you in advance!

According to Rockauto the Fel-Pro 9958PT1 is common to both '97 (2.2L 85mm bore) and '98 (2.3L 86mm bore) and lists a bore size of 3.446" or 87.5mm. Honda lists two different numbers for each; 12251-P0A-004 and 12251-PAA-A02 respectively. Rockauto lists Fel-Pro 9851PT with a bore of 3.385" or 85.9mm as spec for a '93 (2.2L 85mm bore) but this also has a unique Honda part number; 12251-PT0-J02.

That may not really clear things up... but I think the takeaway is that there is probably enough material around the bore of the block for a good seal even if the gasket is a slightly larger, especially for a stock or lightly modified daily driver.

I used the Felpro 9958PT1 back in 2012 on a F20B2 (same bore as F22B2) and its been fine for 11 years now. That should do the job for what you need

I suggest buying it with the headgasket and seal kit that comes with a few other odds and ends seals you can change when you pull the head and valve cover

No, this actually helps. I think I was overthinking things a bit. I'm so used to DSMs and upgrading everything and going for bigger and better lol. This is going right back on a stock car, and just replacing the necessities and calling it good. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to reply to me.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will look into this one and just stick with the basics. The kit will be useful, too.
