Default Discontinued Parts

So I was trying to order some OEM parts for the 15K maintenance on my Si from my usual sources on-line and found that all the filters are apparently discontinued, NLA, whatever. I’m sure I’m not the first to run into this. I was surprised since there has been no problem with these items up until now.

How is everyone handling this? Particularly the oil filter since from what I’ve read most of the after market OF’s are crap.

l’m disappointed with Honda in this, although I realize at some point the car population has drops to a place carrying parts isn’t profitable. On the other hand there’s another car in my garage that if you had a body tub you could build a new one from the ground up if you had the money.

My understanding is that every single Honda built since the 1980s (except S2000) uses the exact same oil filter. Honda might improve the filter but whatever filter they sell now should still be fine.

The filter Honda sells is made by FRAM and is a basic orange FRAM inside with an upgraded silicone anti-drainback valve and a few more pleats of filter media. Personally I recommend a Fram Ultra which has those same features plus way better filter media that filters much finer than most other filters (I think 20 microns instead of 30). Unless your racing where you need more oil flow at higher rpm, then a K&N might be be better.

BTW: the more modern smaller filters are actually better at stabilizing oil pressure. That's cause larger cans flex more under pressure.

Thanks for the information. I'm posting another filter-related inquiry (fuel this time) in a moment I would appreciate input on.
