I got a friend who is rebuilding a b18a1 block and the crank only spins about 180 degrees then decides the whole spinning idea just doesn't work for it the head hasn't been put on so it's not hitting a valve but I'm curious about the different things that can cause this issue

 

Bearings/main caps in the wrong order or the wrong caps.

Why not start loosening things til it starts spinning?
