Driver's Caliper piston dust boot seal, bleed screw cap, and cv axle boot are torn
I have a 2008 Honda Civic LX automatic transmission 4 door with 131,870 miles.
In December, 2020, I installed new cv axle shaft assemblies on both sides. I installed new calipers in March, 2021 because the pins weren't sliding properly and the piston dust boot seals were slit. Someone recommended coated calipers, so I bought and installed them. Last weekend I went to change my brake pads (and rotors if needed) and ran into some issues. The rubber dust boot seal around the piston was hanging out and torn. The small rubber cap over the caliper bleed screw was torn, and my cv axle boot at the drivers side hub was torn open. All of this is on the front driver's side wheel. The front passenger side looks fine. No tears or anything. Did I drive over rocks or something that slashed everything? How would this have happened? I baby this car and rarely even speed, so I'm trying to think of where I might have run into debris or something in my path.
Let me know what you recommend... my plan was to get another piston dust boot seal and a caliper bleed screw cap and rebuild the caliper. I've seen a few Youtube videos, hopefully it's not too difficult? Any tips on lubricating the piston or other tricks/suggestions on fixing this caliper is appreciated!
As for the torn boot on the cv axle... should I just replace the boot? Remove the old boot and clean out all the grease, then install a new boot and fill it with grease? I might be able to borrow some tools, as I definitely don't have those tools to clamp down the boot. Or should I just buy another cv axle? Sucks that I just put this one on 2.5 years ago.
I have included photos of the torn rubber parts and photos of the brake pad wear on both sides. I noticed the brake pads on the inside seem to be wearing more than the outer pads. It also looks like the driver's side pads are worn down a little more than the passenger side.
Let me know if the brake pad wear shows any reason for concern.
Maybe you guys have had similar issues and have some tips. I appreciate the help, thanks in advance!!
