K20 Building motor Question about best internals for my application
Hi, I just made an account on this forum so hopefully I can get some responses and help with my questions if you would be so kind. I have an EK civic I am looking to K swap with some kind of k20 motor and I am looking for help putting a plan together on how I can build it.
My situation
To start I do not have a block yet but my plan is to find the cheapest complete k20 I can find and considering this it may not be in the best condition. Therefore, I would love to bore out my cylinder walls to be safe but I also want to run stock type r pistons either part number PRC or RRC for high compression but still cast because I want it to be reliable long-term without worrying about piston slap on cold startups from aftermarket forged pistons. So will I be able to bore out my engine on stock pistons or is that not possible? Is there any small amount like .25mm that would still be okay to bore and run stock pistons or does a bore mean aftermarket pistons and that's that. If that is the case are there pistons I can buy that are reliable and cast. I don't care about power all that much but I want fun so I am planning to have a small quick spooling turbo and a safe tune but I also want internals that can handle revving to at least 8400 kind of regularly and maybe sometimes I can briefly rev to 9k without it blowing up hopefully lol. From my research thus far as long as I am not pushing crazy boost and hp those piston heads will be ok but I would like to replace the valvetrain to be able to accommodate for my rpm goal and I also found that it is a good idea to replace my connecting rods while I am down there.
my question
Is there any way I can run PRC or RRC pistons and still bore my engine reliably and if not, are there aftermarket cast pistons so I can be a little harsher on cold startups? Also, what do you guys suggest I use for valvetrain parts and what connecting rods given my application? Do I need specific piston rings? All advice is welcome and I really appreciate it.
here is a simplification of my setup and goals
oem cast PRC or RRC piston heads from a type r
~11:1 comp ratio
upgraded rods?
upgraded valvetrain?
Do I need specific piston rings?
bore out for a stock piston?
running on a quick spooling small turbo
want to be able to safely rev to 8-9k
LONG TERM RELIABILITY (willing to sacrifice power)
