1983 accord dies when rpms go below 1k & if put into gear
Ok so this has been a 2 week long whack-a-mole. so to start I pulled into work , the car was running fine that day. when i got out of work i noticed i was out of gas. I was running low but didnt think that low. Maybe it was not out but my battery is bad so I have to conserve key starts I just replaced my altinator so my battery took a beating. SO i got gas. put it in . and still wouldn't start.
ok maybe its something easy. At that point my mechanic buddy and I went through and checked everything and repaired everything that needed.
1. needed new plugs, some were not sparking, (put new plugs in)
2. a few wires were bad (got new wires.)
3. coil wasnt sending out a strong spark got (new coil),
4.distributor cap had broken middle contact (new cap)
5. Rotor cap seemed ok but why not change it (new cap)
At this point my car would turn over and finally start. (YES I figured but then.) when rpms got below 1k the car would shake and die. if I tried putting it into drive, shakes and dies.
Ok, must be fuel filter. Got new fuel filters primary and secondary. (idles a little better still dies.)
So now im kinda at a loss. The only thing I can think of is its something with the carb. the exhaust is shooting whitish blue smoke and smells of gas.
Also i noticed when the car dies if i put it into gear two things happen.
1st, if i slam on the gas the car dies faster. 2. if i lightly play with throttle its runs a tad longer.
what do you all think? fuel air mixture is off? We tested compression and its good,
