Hello to all im a new member, I ve owned lots of old Japanese cars but need some help cause never had to do internal engine stuff much. thanks in advance for any advice I. have a 98 accord thar I ended up putting in storage in a warehouse in the 90s with about 30 others...I saved this one because it had 50k..when pulled out last yr got running by new fuel pump get rid of old gas...ran good but I parked it over last winter...now it has no compression on any cylinders...I line up timing marks and it does not have a slipped timing belt .next pull valve cover..what is going on is half the intake valves don't go up and down and the ones that do only slightly..the intake valves not moving are the right valve on each cylinder...(as you sit in the car).makes me wonder if this is a vtec issue? .looking for any tips on how to get these moving again...and if it's easier to just swap motor than r and r the head?
What you are describing is normal for those cylinder heads. With the single cam F series VTEC system, only one intake valve opens completely until VTEC is actuated. The other one only opens halfway for economy. That is not the cause of your issue.
If you have ZERO compression on any cylinders, I would think the reason would be fairly obvious as it must be some sort of total failure. You say the timing belt is fine but that would be pretty indicative of bent valves from a broken or slipped belt. Otherwise either your headgasket randomly and completely failed or your piston rings got transported into another dimension.
Thanks Aladin! For clearing up I did think strange only right ones had problem...should add that two of the right intakes there is slight movement and two no movement of rocker..but exhausts all go up and down .I see this is interference engine so I assumed timing belt....but I use this procedure to check...observe to tdc on piston compression stroke by looking at piston thru spark plug hole..combined with ling up mark on balancer [[[ ] the 4th mark lines up with pointer...the cam mark is spot on" up"..(those pic may appear tiny off but camera only shot at angle).so I don't see belt is not ok?...also put tranny fluid and kroll solvent in cylinders( which brought a 87 camry back with no compression..).no effect on this honda still 0 compression using a snap on compression guage....wondering what next step is smoke test? Up Balancer mark
