1995 Civic EX AC nightmare?
Hey y’all I’m new here, and I just came to try to figure out what’s going on with my EX’s AC. I live in south Texas and bought the car in the winter so I wasn’t able to really tell if the AC was gonna stand up to our brutally hot summers. The next summer I noticed the AC blew warm above like 80 degrees. Replaced compressor, and that didn’t change anything, eventually I found a leak at the evaporator with UV dye. I replaced the evaporator, receiver dryer, compressor again, condenser, expansion valve and used all new O rings and pag oil. I rented a vacuum from AutoZone and pulled a vac on the system for about an hour, and let it sit for another and it held. Charged to spec best I could with cans, and didn’t measure exactly but the AC never improved. I know there’s a couple sensors in the system, and I haven’t looked into them, and I know that the AC control unit’s solder joints are a common issue, but I don’t hear my compressor cycling over and over, wouldn’t the control unit only be used to engage and disengage the compressor clutch? I want to take it to a shop maybe at this point for diagnosis, but I know they’ll just tell me I need new parts but I’ve tried that… after doing all the parts changes I had low Side around 50PSI, and high side rocking about 300PSI, and can’t remember ambient temp when I did that test. That was back in 2019. Still running hot still an issue, but I’ve never been able to fix it and I’ve moved on to a newer 06 Si now. I want my little EG to blow cold air tho. I suspect the heater core shutoff valve is possibly stuck or blocked??? Sometimes my vent temps are hotter feeling than ambient outside temp.
I'd check to make sure that the fan on your condenser is still turning on correctly as needed, and then properly measure the freon you put into the system. Never use Autozone cans, it's basically a guarantee to not do it right.
I'll just point out that this is a large oversight, too much freon on the system will stop the compressor from working efficiently and do a worse job on cooling air.
