Default When you removed your cylinder head...

My car is s 2000 accord lx 4cyl vtech manual trans, but idk if that really matters for this question.

I watched a video on removing the cylinder head for this year accord and the guy, instead of taking off the timing belt, just sort of scooted it over and off the cam shaft pulley. Is this a common practice when removing the head? Im getting ready to remove my head so I wanted to ask some people with experience before I decided if I should try it.

For the single cams, it works. I wouldn't say it's common as most people don't know how to do it but it saves a lot of time.

It can also be helpful sometimes to zip-tie or clip (I normally use small binder clips) the timing belt to the cam sprocket and remove that from the cam before pulling the head. If you're careful with it everything stays in time and it goes back together pretty quick. I still check the timing when I do this just in case.

That's a good idea, it's a wonder that hadn't already occurred to me, it seems like it would be easier than scooting the belt over and off.
