Default Valve Cover Bolt Thread, R18

Hello,

I have stripped a thread in the head for one of the valve cover bolts while finishing up a valve adjustment. Anyone know which thread it is? I didn't have tools to measure it. It might have looked like M6x1.

I'm planning on threading an insert if I have to remove the cover again in the future.

Thanks!

Can you tell me how you're about to do it? I stripped it years ago and haven't done anything to it yet Mine was stripped in the rear, where there's little room to work with.

The thread pitch on a M6 bolt likely is 1.0.

See my post #5 in this other thread which has some info. regarding thread diameter and pitch.

Thanks! Very useful. But I'm not quite sure it was M6. I'm trying to find it out before I take the bolt out to buy the inserts in advance.

It's pretty straightforward in my opinion. You take out the cowl cover and panel (there's a video from 1aauto on youtube where they remove it for the EVAP valve replacement) and thread a stainless steel insert while making sure not to drop any shavings in the engine. I'm planning on using this tool:
M6 thread repair kit M6 thread repair kit
. I have confirmed the thread is M6x1.0. That's about it.

Here are the torques for the cowl cover:
6mm bolts (5 bolts total): 7.2 lbf x ft
8mm bolts (4 bolts total): 16 lbf x ft
