Major screw up at first start..... Lost and need guidance
I I was following my Golden rule while trying to finish with my forward facing turbo lsv build. And that Golden rule is always work on your build when you're so exhausted that you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground. After baking in the sun both physically and mentally all day to try to get some things buttoned up to be able to start I sat down in my car and turn the switch to try to start it with a half inch ratchet in 19 mm steel attached to the crank pulley bolt. I knew as soon as I tried to turn it over but from the sound that it made that I had just snapped my crank pulley bolt so I got out looked and was correct I managed to get the rest of the threaded part of the bolt out of my crank no problem in ordered me a arp 205-2501 I believe replacement and waited for it to get here which it just came today. So I put the new crank pulley bolt in and proceeded to get back to top dead center only to realize that my crankshaft will not budge more than say a tooth in either direction. I checked I pulled my timing belt off check my camshafts they still rotate freely there's no bond whatsoever with them however trying to rotate my crank via 19 mm socket on a half inch ratchet does not budge either direction More than just maybe a tooth worth. Really hoping that I haven't totally effed up and been a ride done something you know significantly horrible to my engine but before I go any further I just thought I'd reach out and see if anybody else had any ideas or if it sounded familiar before I before I try to do anything more.
I can't imagine what you may have done during your attempted start-up that would have locked up the rotating assembly... it would be more likely that you actually weren't able to turn it more than a tooth either way BEFORE you tried to start it. If this is NOT the case, the only possibility that comes to mind for me here would be a broken/shattered oil pump gear, which could in fact lock up the crankshaft.
I have inadvertently committed this same engine crime myself in the past and NEVER experienced the outcome that you have now... in my case, the worst was simply a loosened crank pulley bolt and a broken 3/8" ratchet.
Let us know what you find.
