Icon5 New Accord owner looking for help

Hello,

I've recently bought a Gen V Euro Accord from 1997 and I was wondering if anyone has a clue if where I can buy a coilover kit for it and what size rims and tires fit it, as they sure as hell need a refresh.

I was also wondering about any audio upgrades I can do, I want new speakers but don't want to buy too power hungry speakers as I couldn't be bothered to buy and install an amp.

Some help would be much appreciated.

What would your budget be re suspension? If not spending at least 800us on aftermarket branded coilovers dont even bother, it will ride HORRIBLY.

Where are you based?

Re speakers, not sure about the euro models but the CD models have 6x9" speakers in the back and 6/6.5" speakers in the front door. I upgraded to infinity kappa speakers in both and it sounds great with no amp. Factory grilles fit right on top of them too

My budget on coilovers and rims with wheels would be about 4k-5k euros/usd.

I might just be an amature in the car scene, but I keep searching stores with my VIN number and I get no results for coilovers that fit it, same with rims, I cannot for the life of me find 17x5J ET50 blah blah blah... rims. The smallest i can find is 17x7J.

I can't find the specs for the RMS Wattage for the stock speakers anywhere either. The 6.5" front is correct and I'm going to assume then that 6x9" is also correct then, I'll check through the boot just in case.

I'm based in Finland.

I dont think you will find any 17" wheel that is only 5" thick to be honest. For example my DC5 Type-R wheels are 17" x 7"

Even my stock accord 15" wheels are 5.5" thick if I recall. In finland you regularly drive in the snow and ice? If so, I might recommend sticking to 15 or 16" wheels to keep more tyre and sidewall for when you need to put on snow or studded tyres for winter. If you want genuine honda wheels, and you have a big budget can look into used DC2 type-r wheels. They fit the 4 lug hubs exactly. Are you still 4 lug?

Regarding suspension, the euro accords dont have as much aftermarket support. What I suggest you do is reach out to the coilover companies you are interested in buying from with your vehicle info and see what they suggest. BC makes very good coilovers for example. Form and function is good as well etc.

For mine, i kept the original honda springs and just upgraded my struts. It helped the ride without lowering the vehicle (I didn't want mine lowered)

Re the speakers, it is so easy to just pop off the grilles and take a look yourself. Or you can look up from inside the trunk and see the rear speaker size from below on some models as well. The OEM speaker RMS ratings are so low as to not bother. They are 1 way speakers too if I recall.

Finnish people always sell cars with 2 sets of wheels, one for the winter and one for the summer as it is mandatory for studded and non studded tires in its respective season, so the set im currently searching for is only for summer/non snow weather, I'm definetly not set on stock honda rims, it is indeed 4 lugs.

I decided to go with KW suspension (I followed your advice and contacted KW and they said they have the V2 that fit my car).

I decided to go with American specifications as more people seem to tune them, and decided on 18x8J work wheels, if it rubs, it rubs, I just have to hope that the CE7 and CD7 are close enough to eachother when it comes to the wheels.

Good to know that DC5 and DC2 wheels also fit if i decide to get some cleaner winter rims.

Regarding speakers I will take the advice and just take the covers off and go with my gut instict regarding specs and upgrade to atleast 2 way speakers. Thanks for the help!

DC5 won't fit if you are 4 lug, but the original dc2 type-r 4 lug wheels WILL fit if you ever need.

Re the KW suspension, they make great products so im sure you will be well take care of there.

Regarding the 18" i cant promise if it'll fit or not, main concern for me would be fitment if the KW lowers your ride height significantly. You can always downsize your summer sidewalls to compensate though

You going to keep the original wheels for your winter tyres?

If you want to spend on the best quality speakers you can get component setups from any reputable brand, but i didnt really want to find space to mount crossovers and separate tweeters etc, hence why i went with 2 way and 3 way coaxial speakers

Looking forward to seeing how the project goes. Would love photos of your ride sometime
