Default Swapping to Smaller Turbo

Hello all!

New to Hondas and modifying FI setups. Car is a '91 hatch. d16y7 bottom, d15b head. Chipped p28 running on HTS. Current 60/62 turbo setup made 298whp on the dyno. I want to swap to a smaller turbo and work on making this thing a response monster for autoX, with occasional HPDE days. Is changing to a smaller turbo as simple as selecting the one that fits my goals and then tossing it on (only talking about physical parts needed to swap - NOT taking into account re-tune)? May need new oil feed/drain adaptors or similar but is there anything I'm missing?

It may be that simple if you purchase one that has the same style exhaust housing. But there still may be alignment issues. Chances are it will be fine. CHRA fittings may be different aswell. You will need to do your homework on what type and thread fitting it calls for.

Ah, good point. If I go to a smaller turbo, should I also be looking at porting the wastegate or potentially installing restrictor plates downstream to prevent overboost?
