2002 Accord stalls out
Good afternoon,
i have a 02’ Accord with 340,000+ on total on the car but have replaced a lot of parts over the years. Recently my car has been stalling out both in motion and stopped at a light. My dash lights up with almost every light except for oil and check engine lights. The car won’t start until I wait 5 minutes and then it starts right up. Previously when breaking i would see my dash light up but the car didn’t stall.
Is it possible it’s the fuel injector? The pump was replaced this time last year.
thank you

There is a saying: "If you think it is a fuel problem, it's probably an electrical problem." When a fuel pump has problems it just quits. A bad injector would make the engine run very roughly, not stall it. Sounds like a component needs to cool down to restart so I would start with testing coils and distributor. All the dash light should light up when the engine stops but the key is set to 'run.' Is the CEL on?

What would be a good part to test first? I appreciate the help a bunch. I have access to a multimeter so I can definitely do that.
Due to the age of my car I did replace the distributor and now my check engine light is on and its throwing a code P1382. I followed a couple youtube videos when changing out the part and i was wondering if it was possible the distributor went in a 180 degree difference than what it was suppose to and that could cause the issue. (We lined up the part so it would fit inside the engine but is it possible that it could go in “upside down” and be causing the issue).
i have a 2002 honda accord with a 2.3l vtec engine in it that was installed 5+ years ago.
thank you

I want to say a huge thanks to everyone that helped me out. After replacing the distributor I got a CEL for a code and after a bunch of research I did the cheapest fixes first. I saw in a youtube video someone mentioned the computer could have been at fault. I reset my computer by unhooking my battery for an hour. So far the car is running smooth. It seems to idle low for a second when the car is first turned out but other than that the RPMs are holding strong while braking in traffic. The dash has lit up twice (all door indicators, the brake indicator and battery light) but the car doesn’t stall out. I’m hoping to get a couple more months out of this car but an upgrade is inevitable at this point.
thank you all again!

Seems like you've narrowed it down to the ECU, but it could be something wrong in the path from the distributor to the ECU. I assume the same Code returned? The more I read about that code, the more I see why it's so frustrating. Maybe try swapping in a salvage ECU from identical year and model and see what happens.

thank you again for your response.
Yeah I know nothing about immobilizers and such. Wonder if your fuel pump may have been slowly failing. If its original (not impossible with Honda) or an aftermarket one with a lot of miles on it, it could be dead. A cheap test is to check fuel for fuel pressure.
What kind of replacement distributor did you install?
