SUSPENSION SETUP ON STD 91 EF
HELLO ALL. I HAVE A STD 91 EF ON OEM SUSPENSION.
I BOUGHT A PAIR OF NEW ROTA SLIPSTREAMS 15x6.5 +40 FROM MY BUDDY WITH A SET OF 195/45/15 ARROYO GRANDSPORT TIRES ALREADY INSTALLED ON THEM.
I WAS LOOKING TO SEE WHAT I NEEDED FOR A SMOOTH RIDE AND A 2 INCH DROP.
I WAS LOOKING AT THE YONAKA COILOVERS, BUT WHAT ELSE WOULD I NEED? LOWER CONTROL ARMS?
I WANT THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK FOR A SMOOTH RELIABLE RIDE

If you want a smooth ride, get a Cadillac. Shocks don't make your car smoother, springs do. Shocks control the springs. When you drop the car 2", you have less available suspension travel. To compensate for this, you must have stiffer springs to prevent the upper control arms from impacting the chassis or the car bottoming out over bumps. When you increase the spring rate, you must also increase your shock compression and rebound. So, if you want a smooth ride, you need to have more suspension travel, which means, you need to raise the car and using softer springs.
The stiffer you make your spring, the higher the natural frequency. A typical car will have a natural frequency around 1hz. A racecar will have a natural frequency around 2hz. You cannot have stiffer springs without raising the natural frequency.
What you are asking for defies physics.
"There's no such thing of a 2 inch drop and smooth ride."

To add to what was mentioned, if you want a 2" drop and want it to handle well, look at Honed Development's roll center kit. It should help align the suspension geometry to allow a 2" drop that still handles predictably.

I haven't bitten yet and purchased the kit, but I did reach out to them with questions and they were very helpful.
It will still be a rougher ride w/ the spring rates to safely run that drop, but if you are set on it you may as well make sure it behaves properly.
If we talked you out of the 2" drop, go with the Koni/Ground Control setup and call it a day. Assuming the rest of the suspension is in good shape, you wouldn't need anything else and you can dial in your ride height and spring rate to your needs.
