*sometimes* doesn’t crank 94 Del Sol b20b+GSR trans
Hello all,
I have a 1994 Del Sol with a stock b20 and a stock GSR transmission.
Sometimes the girl doesn’t wanna crank? I’ve tried looking around for an answer but it’s difficult to navigate. All day I’ll have no problems then all of a sudden I turn the key and just hear a “click” come from the fuse box/battery side. I’m not sure if that’s a fuse tripping or not? Sometimes it’s just once and then she’ll start up fine. But sometimes it takes multiple upon multiple times to get her to start. My alternator is rebuilt less than a year old and my battery is an optima yellow top less than a month old.
I just wanted to seek some advise before I go buy a new starter. See if anyone has some electrical wisdom they could pass on!

How well are your ground connections? Make sure your battery to chassis and chassis to engine have a good solid clean bare metal connection also making sure the starter spade terminal wire is on snug then you should have some better luck. Usually it's the poor chassis to engine ground that seems to be the culprit but If the issue still persists, if you can, have a multimeter handy and check the voltage to the starter and make sure it's seeing 12v when attempting to crank.
I would think if your getting a good 12v to the starter and she's not responding with all solid connections then maybe it's time for a replacement.
Another possible cause could be the ignition switch itself where the fully turned key into crank position may be wearing out but I'm kinda doubtful on that for your problem.
I'm leaning towards just poor connections.

Yea check to see if the starter spade terminal wire is on snug!
You could have the started tested at the auto store like auto zone.
A weak ignition coil can give you trouble starting too.

Thank you guys for your responses!
The problem has progressed to the point she basically never cranks. Sometimes I can get her to crank and she starts up fine. Push starting has no issues.
So I did have my starter rebuilt. But the issue persists. As I have done more research, and reading y’all’s suggestions, I am hopeful it’s a bad ground connection.
It’s like 0400 rn so in the morning I’m gonna sand down all the ground points to bare metal and see if I can any success that way. I’ll update later on

After sanding the ground points down to bare metal nothing has changed.
Me and a homie are gonna trying to do some testing today after I get off work.
Alternator is less than 5 months old, starter is 4 days old and better is only 2-3 weeks old. I have no clue what it could be

I did hear a click, coming from where the battery is located, and then nothing.
But the issue has been solved, my starter was bad. I took it to a local remanufacture place and the first time they fixed it it still didn’t work. The starter would pop out but would not rotate. They have a 1 year warranty so of course 3 days later I took it back. They said they changed out a few things and now my Del Sol starts up fine! Have started it 6 times so far and every single time it has started up.
I would like to note the small spin that plugs in the top/side of the starter was looking pretty rough and frayed. So I did clean up/fix that pin the same time I had the starter fixed a 2nd time.
