I am not a newbie to engine building in general; although I have never done it on a car engine. Countless motorcycles and other small engines. However, I went and picked up a small box of D series performance go-fast bits, second hand but never opened from Facebook marketplace, for a good deal as I plan to eventually make a simple and reliable turbo civic aiming for around 250whp.
I am confused as to how the pistons are supposed to attach to the rods. I can’t find much information on the pistons, but they appear to have no notch whatsoever for a C clip to hold the wrist pins in. I imagine this means D series engines are supposed to be press-fit wrist pins? My problem is that the rods also have a wrist pin bushing and the wrist pins slide into them. Therefore when they are attached together the wrist pin can just slide around aimlessly like a stoner at a water park. I guess the rods are supposed to be floating wrist pin? Is there a way to get these to play nice with each other? The guy I bought them from is a reputable builder so I would have thought he’d get the right parts, but it’s looking like this ship was not meant to sail and will quickly Titanic itself. Apologies for any mistakes or misconceptions on my part. Anything helps; thanks. A slight lack of c clip. Haven’t found much other than an Amazon listing for these pistons. Rod just slides around lol
Factory pistons with factory rods use a press fit between the small end of the rod and the wrist pin. That's why you don't see circlip grooves in the piston.
Aftermarket performance rods use a floating wrist pin and require a piston with a means of retaining the pin.

i had a suspicion. Are these maxpeedingrods stock length or long? Trying to figure out what other pistons I should get. From what I know, Vitara pistons on stock length yield fairly low compression. (Something like 8.8:1?) while I am sure this is great for 600whp waiting for boost to hit like a semi truck, it sounds less than optimal to have 0 horsepower until 4k rpm for a fun street Honda. Any sort of good pistons anybody knows that will yield compression somewhere in the 9s?
