2003 Honda civic lx engine upgrade

What can you do to upgrade the engine in this vehicle ? Can I buy a completely new motor and drop it in ?

There was never a performance engine available in this platform, and @Ryanthegreat1 is right. Look for a next gen civic Si or acura rsx type S if you want performance.
