Default Automatic Transmission Install Woes

Hello,

Recently I picked up a $500 1999 civic with the intention to fix it up for my girlfriend, and I've been running into a roadblock installing the auto trans onto the engine.

The other day I mated the two by twisting and jerking the transmission onto the engine, smacking it with a rubber mallet once I had it "mated" and snugging up the bolts. When I attempted to turn the engine over in order to set timing for the distributor, I noticed it would not budge. I removed the transmission, and when the engine turned over I marked it up to a seized transmission. After researching the topic more, I learned the torque converter was supposed to be installed onto the transmission, aligned, then installed as an assembly onto the engine, and I likely failed on the oil pump alignment

In a few threads that I've read here on the forum I am under the impression that if I simply reinstall everything correctly I will not have anything to worry with, but on other forums for other cars it's implied that the transmission oil pump is likely crushed and I will need a new transmission. What is the case for the Civic, and should I cut my losses and install a fresher junkyard unit instead?

Thanks!

Bump, I'm hoping to get an answer on this so I can try and wrap up this portion of the project today.
