I just got 04 civic ex, the dash only shows air bag, key, and serv engine lights, no gauges, no gears. it runs and drives (shifts) fine, head lights and blinkers work, all fuses good. I tried to start up the self diagnostic but doesn't respond to anything, even tried to reset the req maint light with no luck. could it be that the trip button is not working?, it pushes in and seems to click like it should. Any ideas are helpful?, thx guys and gals.

 

4 cyl auto trans, The brake light also comes on, with the others.

 

I’d start by checking LEDs to dash. Also, although unlikely, check connection to dash and inspect/clean it. Haven’t had that happen to me so far tbh

 

Hey Ron have you had any luck with this? I don't know how much your gauge cluster and my SI hatch's have in common but I'm looking into the dead trip reset button issue and dead hatch open light. Was really hoping to find someone had opened up the cluster to check the button's contacts since others have said putting side pressure on it or pushing hard on it sometimes works.

The backlighting for a couple my gauges was very dim and where those bulbs twist into the board the contact area was worn a little flat. I gave the metal tabs on the bulb holders a tiny tweak to tighten the contact to the board a little. The warning lights are LEDs tho.

The circuit for my hatch open light all appears to be functioning so I'm kinda suspecting the circuit board....how bout you take yours apart & tell me how it went !

 

I just don't have the time atm, using it as my daily, I did notice the engine light doesn't stay on after the motor starts. Going to spray contact cleaner down the trip button to see in that helps, will end up getting a new dashboard for it if we can't find a cause.

 

A few days ago the engine light, that has been on all this time has gone off, still can't get it to go into self test tho.
