I Was just wondering if anyone knew what the middle piece is called, is this type of exhaust used in other cars and what's the purpose of the middle cylinder and could this technology be implemented in use of a V8 if there was 2, one for each side of the v

 

It's a Helmholtz resonator or a side branch resonator.

Pretty common. Works well to kill specific frequencies. And yes it works on v8s.

Well I see things can get pretty complicated if you wanna get the perfect exhaust, I actually didn't know this existed in exhaust systems and outside in different applications thanks bigdog
