1988 honda crx wiring
* You have gauges wired up that are not tied to the ECU
* You want to adjust the rev-limiter
You can adjust the parameters of the stock (OBD0) ECU with software like TurboEdit, but knowledge and use of OBD0 tuning is dwindling (to my knowledge).
Easiest would be to go with Hondata S300 or Haltech ($$$) and you can tune your engine however you like.
You can wire in standalone gauges if you add standalone sensors. For a dirt car, engine temp and oil pressure are the default gauges but I would add voltage and fuel pressure for troubleshooting. These are all pretty easy to add without tapping into the stock sensors. Adding an RPM gauge would require tapping into distributer wiring but really isn't required.
To add a rev limiter, you need a box that controls ignition, such as an MSD ignition box. However, this will only allow you to limit RPM below that of the stock ECU. To adjust the stock ECU, you will need to use an OBD0 tuner, socket the ECU and burn a new EPROM. There is plenty of information about this on PGMFI.org.
You cannot "go with a Hondata 300" with the current ECU and distributer. Hondata requires OBD1 at least and the car is OBD0 and incompatible. You could use a standalone ECU but without power adders or significant changes to compression, cams, etc., there really isn't a point.
Lastly, please read the rules for your class and fully understand what you can and can't do before you invest any time or money.
