2006 Civic EX very rough and stalling low RPM/idle
Hello everyone, made this account to post this to get some insight on my situation.
2006 EX, 271kish miles, automatic. On my commute to work today I stopped to get gas and when I pulled into the station and coasting at a low RPM/idle the car stalled. Oil and battery annunciation popped up.
Restarted the car. Engine made some interesting knocking/whining noises, more on that below. Died again. Restarted, began driving immediately, did great the rest of the time on the interstate. Got to work, immediately died again at low RPM. Here’s some background and other issues-
1. A few days ago the AC Compressor started smoking and the serpentine belt as well. It hasn’t really done this much since. When the car died this was the first thing I checked and the belt was still intact.
2. The car could use a valve adjustment. Engine makes a lot of whining/knocking noise that after lots of research I determined it’s a valve adjustment needed. Since the car is so old and has many miles, I don’t plan on doing this expensive fix. It’s been like this the past 20k miles or so.
3. Spark Plugs were replaced about 30k miles ago.
4. New battery and starter both put it about a year ago.
5. It’s got a very bad coolant leak, I think near the water pump. I have to open the radiator cap and top the coolant off every 600 miles or so or else the car will begin to overheat.
6. A slight engine oil leak somewhere.
Thanks for the help. The car has been good to me and I’ve had it a long time, Id like to get it fixed, if this is the end of its life I plan on buying a 2012-2015 for my next commuter car.

If you think a valve adjustment is expensive wait until you figure out how much that AC compressor is going to run you to make right again.
Sounds like you don't want to spend money on the required maintenance that would solve your issues.
Probably best to sell it now and move on to your next victim.
