Speedometer acting weird.

Default Speedometer acting weird.

I have a 1999 civic ex sedan and my speedometer stopped working today. Doesnt read anything unless im braking. Also my brake light came on but im 90% sure thats unrelated. Any thoughts?

Check the speed sensor and its plug, its located on top of the Trans, not hard to find it.

If it's the E brake light that pops up, this is a simple sensor issue, it happens when it gets cold usually. The sensor is located by the E brake under the console, The sensor can be replaced easily.

Agree with wunfstgsr on the speed sensor plug having a bad connection.

For the brake light, it could also be that your brake master cylinder reservoir is low on fluid.

pull all your engine grounds off and sandpaper them down nice and clean again
