Blown head gasket and an air pocket come to mind.

Alternatively a plugged heater core. Or misadjusted heater valve on the firewall.

First I would check the bottom of the air flapper box and make sure all the white slider levers are intact. There is one that controls the air to either pass through the heater core or bypass it and if it's broke in an in the cold position, you won't get hot air from the heater even though the heater core is getting hot.

The other area is the slider valve in the engine bay by the fire wall, if the wire has come off the valve lever, the valve won't let hot coolant into the heater core.

If those all check out fine, then it's the coolant level, head gasket checks, etc.

Btw the flapper box is behind the center of the dash/ashtray area and if you look from the passenger foot well in the cabin you can see the bottom of the box and if I recall, there is two white plastic slider levers that you should see mounted to posts (that control the flaps in the box).

Theae should be a mechanical control wire from the HVAC unit in the dash to that valve. Likely someone ripped it off the firewall and tossed it when they did the engine swap.
