Default Change seals in Hatachi distributor

I've read the distributor seals FAQ. I have what must be a less common Hitachi distributor with a pressed pin for the cam engagement device. After taking some reasonably hard but careful wacks at the pin with a punch (while resting the end on a block of hardwood with a drilled hole beneath) didn't see any movement. I'm thinking will have to find someone with a press. Or what has proven successful?

Also, if do remove the pin. Do I then just remove the screws from the hold down on the top side and the shaft can just slide up and out?

Interesting. I hadn't heard of an internal oil leak inside a distributor until you posted.

I infer from the video (below) that the pin is tapered and must be driven/pressed out opposite the side it was driven/pressed in.

Indeed, the internal (and external) leaks happen on the Tec dizzy as well. Not too hard to sort, but it is definitely one of the most likely leaks on the f series

I took the dizzy to an indy mechanic. Thought they might press the pin out. But they punched it out like I was trying to do. Said it was two person job, one to hold the dizzy and one to punch the pin. It really is tight fit, but they got it out and reassembled with new seal without damage. I've not operated yet, but thinking good return for $25.

How did it go so far? My distributor was l leaking in my 2000 accord as well. I was able to push the pin out with a motorcycle chain puller from harbor freight. After I replaced the seal it was still leaking. I gave up and just bought an aftermarket one from Amazon. I know something like that you want OEM but been doing well so far after 7 months.

I bought a Dornan kit to fix this at Autozone and the internal seal fit (there were two, just use one). The tricky part was the O-ring which I bought separately. The one you pull off will have been permanently stretched and so it measures as being a 26 mm diameter O-ring. It isn't, if you use one it will leak. It is actually a 25.2 mm O-ring, which is slightly thicker than the 26 mm O-ring.

Since then I have found some more appropriate kits (albeit not at any local car parts store.) If time is not of the essence, I would order one of these. I have not used these guys, but for instance:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/265217102148

So far we have no leaks from either the O-ring or the internal seal, but it has only been a couple of hundred miles.
