B18c1 vs d16y8 build cost?
Hey, this has probably been answered before but not quite like I知 looking for. I知 just wondering if it痴 still worth b18c1 swapping my ek coupe or building my d16y8. I want them both to have a turbo setup and I want it to be affordable. I haven稚 found many b18c1 that are affordable anymore, where I live I致e seen them go for like 4-5k and only the really rough ones for 2k. Is it even still worth swapping the b18c1 or just keep the d16y8 and build it up? Thanks guy and have a great day!
What is your overall budget for the build? Power goals and what are you using the car for? A proper turbo setup in general on these cars is no longer cheap, in any configuration. At least not if you do it right and reliably.
The only engine swaps worth doing now on these platforms are K swaps. The only reason to invest in a D or B series engine at this point is if you already had a pile of parts waiting for one of those engines.

Just wanted to make a nice street build probably around 350-400hp but also be reliable enough to use as a daily driver. Budget I知 not sure if I知 not doing the swap/engine build right now I知 moving soon so once I move and get everything setup in my garage then I値l set aside some money for the swap/build so just looking to see what would be best. Also if k swapping it is best what would be better for it k20 or k24? I know k20 has better low end torque but is there anything besides that? Thanks for all the help!
At 300+WHP, sleeves definitely become a factor on a D series engine, so you would have to account for the cost of getting the engine sleeved which would offset a decent chunk of what you would spend on a B swap.
I'm guessing you meant to say K24 has more low end torque. Either engine would be great, for your power goals and considering you'll be turbo'd, I'd advise stick with a K20. K series engines have the strongest OEM sleeves out of any Honda engine so that would be a non-issue, and I want to say (fact check me) the rods/pistons are typically good for upwards of 450-500hp as well. K20a.org would have a lot more info, I'd spend some time searching there.
K24's also make so much low end torque that on a turbo setup, you'd be much more likely to break a stock rod. At 350-400WHP a completely stock K20 should still be very reliable.
My advice would be to do a NA K swap first, and get that 100% sorted out and working well. Get a cheap exhaust manifold in place while planning on a turbo in the future. You will have MUCH more room to grow on a K engine, and better support both now and in the future.

Yeah my bad sorry haven稚 talked about k engines in a WHILE. But alright for sure thanks for the help! Do you know of any kits that are good for the swap? I know k tuned has one but didn稚 know if anyone has tried it or if there痴 better ones.
Hybrid-Racing also has swap kits, and I think if you email them you can get a free PDF guide for how to complete the installation.

^I actually don't see a download link anywhere though for the guide. I'd recommend sending them an email, if you don't hear back from them let me know and I'll upload some of the old documents I have.
Not exactly sure, all I know is the cost of K engines and parts have gone down over the years whereas D and B series engines have skyrocketed. My biggest point is if you're starting from 0 and don't already have a pile of D or B series parts laying around, it would make no sense to make an investment on that front now. "K is the way", but seriously lol.
Look up "VTEC Academy K Swap" on YouTube and check some of their videos as well, they have a lot of information on K swaps.

Bro you池e the best thanks for all the tons of help, I致e always been scared of engine swapping cause it痴 something I haven稚 done before but you gave me a ton of confidence with all the help and info you致e given me I really appreciate it!
Glad to hear it, and to help.
Last piece of general advice I'll give you - Get all of your parts together that you need for the swap before you take apart your current set up or start the project. This will greatly minimize your downtime and make the whole thing move a lot smoother.
