Hello I have a 2003 acura mdx (J35A5) v6 . It is misfiring on all 6 cylinders however I have not noticed any issues until checking for codes one day. I have not replaced the spark plugs and coil packs and will do that this weekend, however I have read that all 6 cylinders misfiring is typically the result of unadjusted valves. I have some experience with working on cars but I have never actually opened up the engine before and am nervous to do so as this is my only form of transportation right now. So my questions are.

1. What is the risk of driving a car with all 6 cylinders misfiring?

2. How likely is it that is do to improper valve adjustment.

3. How much should I expect to pay for a valve adjustment if I have someone else do this and don't do it myself.

 

1. Burned exhaust valves and melted cats. Gets really expensive really fast.

2. If they have never been adjusted it would be wise to check them and adjust if needed.

3. Book time is listed at 3 hours labor. Not sure how much I trust that when valve cover gaskets alone are 2.4 hours. Plus you need intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and coolant for any that leaks out when disconnecting the throttle body. Also it's a garbage job to get to those rear cylinders.
