I've been working on my 98 Civic Coupe that I bought some time ago. I noticed that it originally was automatic that was swapped to a manual. Originally it had a P2E-L82 which worked fine except for some AT codes (P0700, P1758,P0753,P1768). After some googling, I found a 96-98 Honda Civic non vtec ecu. DX CX LX. 37820-P2E-L01. Manual 5 speed. Once it arrived, I plugged in A B D connectors (left D hanging) and I SWEAR the engine turned over and started just fine!!!
This morning, the engine would turn but I wouldn't hear the fuel pump the engine nor would the engine start. After some failed troubleshooting, I decided to swap the auto ECU in and the civic started just fine. I've looked deep on the forums and can't find a solution of why the manual ECU won't start the civic.
Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to give as much details as possible.
Odd thing is that the ECU worked a couple days ago when I first swapped it, but I wont rule that out. Is there a way to check that?
Do you have a friend with a '96-98 Civic you could try the ECU in ? Otherwise, I don't have a suggestion as to how to "test" the ECU. Unfortunately, the idea that because the ECU worked for a couple of days means that it is good is flawed... this is the definition of "Broken"... it was fine, but now it isn't. It could simply be that you had an unfortunately quick failure of a used part.
Agreed. It's odd that it would stop functioning "overnight" but it has the same issues as a bad/dead ecu with not even priming the fuel pump when turning the key into the on position. There was a weak/dying battery in the vehicle that I recently changed and I wonder if that has something to do with it (jumping it and killing the ECU???). I have ordered another ECU off eBay to troubleshoot the problem. Hate to throw parts at a problem but can't think of any other way to narrow down the issue.
Forgot to mention that I already have and did don't see any burn spots on the front or rear of the PCB. I'll go ahead and post some pics to see if ya'll see something that I'm missing. (Excuse the hairy leg)
