Ignition module? Common problem?
Hello
I have a Honda Accord 2.0i 16v 133 CB3 4th gen Sedan petrol 4door.
It always starts up perfectly and runs perfect. Until it gets to operating temperature. When the car gets hot it shuts down immidiately. Like it was turned off electrically, not because coughing and not because getting fuel or misfiring, but it instantly cuts out!
Someone told me this was caused by something called ignition module. A small chip-looking device on the side of the distributor. Its apperantly supposed to shut the car down when it gets too hot. And that it has thermal paste between it and the distributor. and this paste need to be changed once in a while (like a computer processor's paste on the motherboard). And that its a common problem with these hondas?
Where can i get this part? (preferebly in Europe)
Is this a common issue? I see no other threads about it.
Is there a way to bypass that **** device?
Could it be something else?
Thanks for advice and suggestions.
Kind regards norwegian honda owner

It is more common to have the ignition main relay to have intermittent heat related issues than the igniter (ICM) inside the distributor. I am not saying that it's not the igniter (ICM) just that it is more common to have a cracked solder joint inside the ignition main relay that causes heat related ignition issues.
There are a few videos of how to check the ignition main relay solder joint.
There is no way to bypass the igniter (ICM), it's relatively easy and cheap to replace.
If you want to swap out the igniter (ICM) here is the part you are looking for;

Hey, thanks for tips.
I have already soddered up a main relay wich didnt help and also replaced it with a new. Didnt help.
I have ordered this part:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234375862...uU_mSaFG_Ejppo
Hoping it will fix the car
My problem now is;
I live in Europe, and this Honda that i own is 1800km north from me. So its hit or miss. If this isnt the problem i'll be flying needlesly. And if it doesnt work or anything fails i'll be screwed. So im really hoping this fixes it.
Kind regards
Havardoz

Another thing to look at while you have the distributor apart to change out the igniter (ICM) is the condition of all the wires and connectors in there. Over the years the wire can dry and start to crack and the contacts can get corroded. Quick fix would be to clean up all the contacts and bring a roll of electrical tape with you to cover up any wires that might be dry cracked in there.
