Accord 90 - A water pump broken soon after being changed
Hi,
I have recently bought a honda accord 90, which seems to be leaking coolant at the water pump. According to the previous owner (of just 2 weeks ago), the water pump was changed recently.
Is it possible that it broke down again after a short time? If so, what could be the bigger issue? I am thinking about the possibility of fixing it or not since the car is very old and I am afraid that other bigger problems (head gasket) may arise soon (making me spending money on an old car when I could buy a new one).
Best regards.

it IS possible it can break if it is a low quality part or if it was installed badly.
Not likely, but it is possible. Especially if they installed the gasket badly

As was mentioned, it's possible the water pump didn't get installed properly, causing it to leak. The pump is driven off the timing belt, so it's not super cheap to replace if you need to pay someone to do it. If the car overheated as a result of the leaking water pump, the engine might have suffered damage (such as a blown head gasket) as a result. There are tests that can be performed to determine if any damage has been done.

I don't know what that entails.
The old owner, instead, sent me this (they bought the piece from the UK):
HONDA ACCORD MK5 2.0 PETROL THERMOSTAT HOUSING 1998 16 Nov 2021 9:51 AM O/n 20-06071-92093 Sold by millstreetautosalvageltd Paid by card Delivered on Fri, 20 Nov 2021 but not fitted immediately (car already off road)
This is all I know and I am not expert on this stuff...
Anyway the car is now leaking heavily close to the water pump...
The water jacket is the term for the coolant passages through the block. Is the leak coming from the rear of the water pump between the engine and firewall? Pumps have a weep hole there in between two pump shaft seals to let you know your pump is going out.
