Aftermarket power steering assembly? I'm confused
Hi all. My mother has a 2016 Civic EX (no lane keep assist) that has a "sticky steering" issue common with these cars. The 2017 and 2018 models were recalled for this, but not the 2016. This is the recall: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...8V663-5024.pdf .
Anyway we took it to the Honda dealer, and they confirmed this is the problem. It needs a new gearbox (EPS unit). The Honda part is $2,400, but I'm seeing aftermarket parts for $600 or so. However, no mechanic is willing to use the aftermarket part, saying it may not work. What's the deal here? Must we pay $2,400 plus labor to have this part replaced? She doesn't have a lot of money. Thanks!

Bump.
I got into an accident over a year ago and have tried to get the steering rack replaced; paid for by my insurance and they are refusing saying I need proof the accident caused the damage. (Everything was PERFECT prior to the accident). I hate to modify my stock vehicle, but Honda wants $3,500 for the work (at least). What options are available to '16 Civic owners to fix the sticky wheel without paying out an arm and a leg. I'm actually considering trading it in at this point. Not worth the investment after it was just paid off.
