Default Honda Civic 98

Hi guys I wonder if anyone can help me, I have a Honda Civic 98 sport coupe, it has a D.16 block in it as stock, I am looking to put something better in, however I have no idea what sort of engine I should be looking for, can anyone suggest the ideal swap?

Im not clued up enough to have a budget at the moment, it’s probably gonna end up being a couple years before I’m fully happy so I’m just open to suggestions really, I need something to base off as I haven’t got a clue what sort of price anything is gonna be, is there something you reckon would be a good route to go down?
