I have an 04 Honda Civic that I can't shift out of park. I've checked the other related posts and none of them seem to apply. I have break lights, and fuses are fine (replaced blown ones) and my dash is working. There was an issue at first with the dash not working which was due to a blown fuse from the break lights wiring being loose, this has been fixed. I've checked the key interlock solenoid and park pin switch, appear to be in working conditions. Here's where I run into a problem, the wiring to the key interlock has 12 volts when in on position, but it's not running power to the shift lock solenoid even though there's continuity. I've tried running new wire from the key interlock to the shift solenoid and had the same issue. I've blown 3 new shift solenoid and fuses. The shift solenoids were tested prior to install and we're all in working order. For the time being I have disabled the shift lock solenoid but this is not sustainable safety wise. Please help.
It doesn't sound like you understand how the shift position interlock and the key interlock work. Power isn't supposed to run from the key interlock to the shift lock solenoid. Blowing the 3 new shift lock solenoid is likely from running the new wire with power there.
When the ignition is in the ON or START position, the shift lock solenoid will get power via under-dash Fuse No. 10 (7.5A) via the yellow wire. For the shift lock solenoid to be energized to shift out of Park, the multiplex control unit (located and part of the under-dash fuse box) needs to send the ground via the Yel/Blk wire. Usually, not being able to shift out of Park is due to the ground signal not being sent.
Essentially at its most basic description, what needs to happen for the ground to be sent is the following: 1) Brake pedal is depressed so power is sent to PCM. 2) PCM sends a separate power signal to multiplex control unit. 3) Multiplex control unit sends ground to shift lock solenoid.
Issues can be wiring, fuse, PCM, multiplex control unit, etc.
In this other thread which is for an earlier generation of Civics (which doesn't have the multiplex control unit, etc.), see my post #12 regarding an inexpensive work around with a momentary switch to send ground to the shift lock solenoid. This will also work for your generation Civic. It will allow to shift out of Park only when the momentary switch is pressed.

Hi, sorry but that's a misunderstanding, I didn't run a power wire, I replaced the yellow wire (ground wire) and the yellow and black wire (power) that runs from the steering wheel to the gear shift solenoid. I didn't bypass or install wiring, I just replaced existing wiring. There is continuity when tested, but no power when brake is depressed. This was an issue prior to replacing the wiring, which is why I thought there was an issue somewhere along the wire that was allowing partial power, not full power to be passed. So you're saying to check the PCM and multiplex unit?
It's funny that you mention that post as I have already read it and was gonna go today to get a switch.
The following circuit diagram is for non-CVT (CVT looks to be pretty much the same).
The Yellow wire is power, and the Yel/Blk is ground. Both come from the under-dash fuse box harness connectors, not the steering wheel.
On a side note: The key interlock is a somewhat separate circuit (separate from the shift position interlock) to detect that the shift lever has been moved out of Park, to then prevent the ignition switch from being rotated fully
and turned to LOCK (0).

Since you mentioned you rewired, check that under-dash Fuse No. 10 is not blown first. As i previously stated, power to the shift lock solenoid supposed to come from the fuse box. Make sure the re-wiring you did is correct.

Like I said, I just replaced the existing wiring that was there. I got the car not long ago, so it's possible that someone messed with the wiring before and wired it up wrong. Fuse is fine.
