Icon5 Overheated Engine should be kept On or shut Off immediately?

Hi ,
as Honda owner basic question, I would like to know what would be rational action in Overheated engine circumestance, after pull over the car, should the engine be shut off instantly ? Or better being kept runnig, while adding the coolant over the radiator to decrease the ambient temperature ?
is it right that engine has to be turned off immediately to stop adding more heat load on it ?
how about other statement which emphasizes on avoid of turning the Boiling engine Off , if so the main parts i.e. rings and pistons will be seriously damaged due to the momentary increase of the heat, resulted by cutting circulation of heat transfer once the engine is shut off ? so It should be kept running.
Which statement is true ?
Thanks for your clarifying technical feed.

Never run the engine longer then safely driveable to your closest stopping point if the needle should rise to Hot!

You should shut it off, generally. Since you are already overheating while moving you certainly aren't going to get any cooler without all that air passing through the radiator like when you were still moving. Once the engine is shut off there isn't going to be any more heat generated, and since the thermostat is still open coolant will still circulate a bit while it has momentum. Also, there should be a sensor that fires up the cooling fans a few minutes after shutoff should temperatures be high enough. You can also turn on the fans by turning the key to 'on,' again if the engine is hot enough.
