It depends on the motor. Some motors (like 1988-1991 HF, STD and DX motors) are basically worthless. You would have a hard time giving them away. So dumping the motor may be the only way to go. Others (like the SOHC VTEC) are worth something and can be sold.
somebody can give me one
i really need to get my 93 cx hatchback on the road soon....in all seriousness if you are in new england and have something low priced let me know!!!!

I just have mine sitting on a shelf at my friends shop. Not really worth selling, and you never know if you'll need it again someday.
wish i had space to keep mine. had it smogged before i did the swap. would've come in handy. mines for sale, the complete swap, $20 picked up!
I agree with STORMIN MATT, if we are talking 88-91 Civic/CRX swaps, which we do many, the DX, HF motors are worthless. For relaxation, we sometimes have "fun" with those motors before the swap. Free Rev to Redline until something goes.........Stick sandwiches, chips, etc. in front of the throttle plate and then W.O.T. and watch it get sucked right in.
We were thinking of maybe doing the DURALUBE challenge, but havent got around to it yet. The last two 1.5 HF motors were blown by downshifting gears. (Do you realize how TALL the HF tranny is geared???) Downshifting while traveling 50mph caused the HF motor to exceed the 5,000 rpm Redline.......hehehhe.
The last DX motor put to death was by taking the Dual Point Intake off, removing the wire screens above the throttle bodies, and feeding it a whole bag of corn chips....
We had it on videotape. At first feeding it some chips would not kill it......then more and more,,,,,it still wouldnt die, finally i got impatient and poured the whole bag of chips down its throat. That did it.
Who knows, maybe the intake tract is just clogged, but it doesnt start anymore. The owner loves to participate in the death of his old motor before the swap.
If its a D16a6 or D16z6, I usually hang on to them. I try to road test the motor and tranny before the "operation". If the stock motor and tranny is in good shape, I will usually "deduct" some of the cost associated with the hybrid swap from the customer to help them out with the expenses. I will then sell them to customers that are just looking for a stock motor or tranny to replace theirs.
One thing good about these motor/trannies, is that most of them are perfectly fine and where "pulled" for a swap, not because something was wrong with them.
Everyone's happy.
If someone is actually interested in the HF or DX motors, let me know. We will stop having fun with them

We're gearing a 100 shot of naws up for a 400m sprint on one of the old d15's my mates ripped out... maybe even plug a rev-limit free ecu in.
Sure, the tranny has like no synchros left and the motor is around 230,000kms old...
I'll put money on it not making it past the 60ft.

I sold my 92 VX complete swap for $600
I currently have a 91 D15B2 and an 89 D15B2 under a tarp behind my garage. I'm hoping someone will think they are valuable and steal them. I take misc. thins from them but overall they are worthless. I also have a 96 D16Y7 inside my garage but it's going into my friends 89 CRX Si since his motor is using oil like no tomorrow.
