Default B16 into an american car?

Hey, me and boy are thinking of doing something a little creative and swapping a b16, maybe a b18 if i can get the money, into my cougar. Has this been done a lot with american cars? Do you guys know any websites or threads with anything useful? Wed be throwing in the tranny as well. This is in the very prelimanary stages, just thinking about this. We know a guy who could prolly do the engine mounting...anyways, just wanted some feedback from you guys, thanks....

It is kind of useless. Doesn't a cougar have the same if not more power than a b16?

I don't know....I guess someone could spend millions of dollars to paint a road light green. I guess it'd be kind of shocking....but is there really a point?

whoa whoa whoa, no need for you guys to blow up on me here, I was looking for some FRIENDLY advice, not some dicks bitching at me. When I said we will shock you all, i wasnt saying it to be a dick, i was joking around. You should be glad other people want to experiment with ur engines. And by the way, Im not some idiot who just thinks throwing a honda engine in my car will make it faster. Ive been researching a little. I have a new cougar, not an old one, its around 2700 lbs, yea that heavy. But, even though the engine claimes 170 horses, the idiots at ford cannot put those horses to the wheels. Both the engine and the transmission are horrible. I am willing to bet a b16 of the EXACT same power output, and new tranny would up performance considerably. Plus, there would be plenty of room under the hood for a turbo and other goodies, where as the coug engines do have turbos available...if you want to pay 5 grand.

ps

thanks for the friendly advice

It would be cool to be accomplished, but not worth the money. Just cut everything out of the engine compatment and replace it with all the Honda stuff, and re-wire the entire car. and now you got a 3500 lb car to haul around with a weaker engine than what was origionally in there. Just go FI on your Cougar Engine.

I don't know why this idea "offends" other board members. Good luck with your rather unique project. I hope you do shock us all.
Technically speaking, I would imagine the mounts would be the least of your worries. Might as well wire up that stand alone engine management now. That seems to be the biggest hurdle.

Why not put a damn Yugo motor in there? Dumbest thing I've ever heard of. I'm am now more stupid after reading this idea and wish I could get back the five minutes I've wasted reading all of the posts. I should have stopped past the first post.

My, what such big ***** you have!!!! lol

To post something like that!!!! lol

Seriously, though, the b16a would be dog slow in a cougar. "no torque"

B18a maybe better. Remember, Hondas are known for high end hp, not torque.

If you do complete the swap, you would gain respect, i think

GOOD LUCK

dude we are trying to tell you
its POINTLESS! yea you can put it in there but not if you have a limited budget of less THAN 5000$
hondas have NO TORQUE the cougar is faster out of the hole. you want to replace that bigger engine, with a smaller one and NO TORQUE.
im all for you, if you try this but its just so ******* pointless

thats why there are no webpages about it.

There are many things that you can do that would be cheaper and more effective at making a Cougar fast. IMO, a project like yours cannot be justified unless the car is running low 12's as a result. If you're just trying to do it to see if you can and/or as a hobby, fine, but you won't get much praise for it.

Anyways, good luck. I have no resources to help you besides a friendly tug in another direction.

OK, flames suck. I would say skip the b series and get an H series (bigger dispacement/ torque) instead if you are set on putting a honda engine in as a project. Of course a lot of people will laugh and say it cant be done, but anything can be done with determination and money. This project would definately have its costs. It is just up to you on wether you want it bad enough or not. You also might want to check into your states emmisions laws if you intend to use this vehicle on the streets. Also, what is cool to you will almost always be stupid to somebody else.
