Default 91 CRX A/C thermostat replacement

1991 CRX Si has a bad thermostat switch. The part 80430-SF1-003 is discontinued, and I can't find it anywhere... there doesn't seem to be an interchangeable aftermarket part either. Anyways, the only solution I've found was a thread on here where a dude rigged up a digital temp controller off Amazon and tapped into the A/C control panel switch for a 12V source. It seems overly complicated for a simple problem. Is there a reason I can't just use a universal thermostat from the parts store and connect it to the existing thermostat wires, or am I missing something ? Is there anything particular I need to look for like amp rating with a universal ? A part number or any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
-LC

I picked up three from junkyards and after testing them to see if they met the specs for what temperature they switch on and off, I used the one that was closest to the spec. I would have bought that new one on eBay if it was available at the time and I was aware of it. But I wonder if it would have been the one closest to the spec. An aftermarket alternative sounds like a better solution than replacing a 30 year old part with another 30 year old part even if it is unused. If you find one that meets the specs (I wonder if the optimum specs are different when using 134a) please post it back to this thread. There is plenty of space in that area so it doesn't really need to "fit" and the connection can easily be modified. It just needs to have a probe that can reach the right spot in the evaporator.
