Default Was mudguard for civic coupe si specific to California and Canada?

I just got my civic si EM1 (Canadian model with D16) and I was checking out US EM1 SI so I can take ques for my modification and realized that all other civic SI didn't have mudguards with the exception of California-registered SI

Apparently, even the 200-mile Civic SI EM1, owned by Honda Motor Co. has mud flaps. I know this is not a big deal but I am just curious if the mudguard was California and Canada specific on SI and SIR models. Also, some Canadian SIR are missing the mudflaps so maybe it was optional?

Mudguards were a dealer installed add-on in the US for all trims.

So I am wondering were they drilled into the body panel or just the wheelwell cover? I am trying to remove them and I don't know how they will look after

Um, just take them off and then you will be the first to know.

They're typically bolted to the body with clips. It shouldn't leave behind any super visible holes.

In the rear, the inner screw goes into a plastic clip that came with the kit and the outers just screwed into th eplastic bumper cover with self tapping screws. The front had clips on the outer due to the metal fenders.
