07 Civic Hybrid - prepping used AC compressor
Greetings!
I've got a 2007 HCH with a failing/failed AC Compressor (I think). It got less and less cool over time (I should have checked the refrigerant), and eventually cold air stopped altogether, the clutch will not engage, and the fans are not turning on at all (inside blower works fine). The only way I can engage the clutch is with a jumper on the relay plug.
After some electrical troubleshooting, I took it to a local mechanic who says he verified electrical connections, verified refrigerant pressure(?), and physically examined it. He has stated it needs a new AC compressor... a very expensive new AC compressor.
After research and visits to a few junkyards, I've obtained a used AC compressor that appears to be in good shape.
Thanks for any guidance. I can't put $2500 in this old car and my son needs it.

- First Question - Is it worth me scheduling a final AC system inspection at a dealer to determine if the current compressor is truly dead? Sometimes they are able to dive deeper in diagnostics, but I've also heard even at dealers, many just say "new compressor" when there are problems as well.
- Second Question - I'm willing to roll the dice and put the used compressor in, but I'd like to test it as much as possible first, AND I need to know how best to prepare it? (how much oil to put in it, etc.). I'll have a shop evacuate the refrigerant first, and I can't find a new clutch kit for this model at all.
Thanks for any guidance. I can't put $2500 in this old car and my son needs it.
