Icon5 Is it good practice to disconnect battery during timing belt/water pump replacement?

I’ve been learning how to replace timing belt / water pump on 05 MDX and 08 TL with the J-Series engines and read/watched the advice of disconnecting the battery cables. Since the service manual doesn’t call for this step, I wonder if it’s just precautionary but not necessary to disconnect the battery, as long as I don't cut any wire or soak any cable in coolant?
