EGR Troubleshoot
Hey i have a 1998 Honda Accord did some major work to it like 1 year ago; and while i was doing the repairs i tested my egr valve, the first test was to check for continuity between terminals 1&2; and 1&3, to see if the egr lift sensor was in good state, I got continuity between 1&3 if i can remember but no continuity between 1&2, the manual from haynes said if either cont check fails replace the valve; however the EGR valve works fine when i tested it during operation of the car, the car completely stalled out, which meant that the valve is good, my question is this, I am quite aware that the lift sensor is no good, but my ecu isnt showing me a egr code, only code im getting is p1259(V-tec malfunction), I know i was suppose to replace the EGR component whislt i was doing my repairs but i just didnt wanna spend extra money on repair cost $, now my engine is emitting a pinging noise during 0-30mph uphill acceleration as a result of this, any feedback on this matter would be greatly appreciated, HondaBoybri out ~
The pinging noise has nothing to do with your EGR system. I don't know why the test failed. But if it's not throwing any codes, leave it alone. EGR is not needed for the engine to run well, only for emissions.
There is a problem with your vtec. The f23 crosses over to vtec at a relatively low rpm under load. Start with a thorough inspection of all vtec wiring and connectors. There is a solenoid, a pressure switch, and a connector for each. They are located where they could easily be damaged while doing 'major work'. Check your engine oil. The vtec system uses oil pressure. Not enough oil level going up a hill, or the wrong viscosity could cause your oil pump to not develop enough pressure to operate the vtec.

R.I.P. mate, get a new engine to swap so you can rebuild your current, assuming it sounds like
I wish you better luck on your accord than what you were given, and godspeed
