Default Driver brake light stays on

Hey guys, I have a 98 dx hatch, my driver brake light is staying on and I have no clue why, any ideas, I don’t think it’s the switch as all 3 would be stuck but the other 2 are functioning normally.

Likely a short in the wiring somewhere.

The bulb is dual filament; one filament for brake light and the other filament for tail light. Turn on the headlight switch and see if the it is related to the tail lights instead of the brake light filament.

Probably have to just start by examining the wiring in the rear driver side.

the light stays on with headlights/park lights on or off, the brake switch is in the positive side of the lights I believe, so any kind of short should cause all 3 to light anyway shouldn’t it? They all fork off of the same wire off of the switch as far as I know

The headlight switch for the tail light also provide positive.

If there wasn't a short, then why would a light be on? There is a short on the wire going to that bulb filament.

What happens if you pull under-hood Fuse No. 52 (15A)? Does that bulb still stay on?

so I solved the issue, in the brake pedal there is a rubber stop that presses the brake switch, mine was gone lol, the reason the other 2 werent on was because they were burnt out 🤦‍♂️ Thanks for the insight though lol, hope this thread can help.

Is this problem recent or has it been this way as long as you have had the car ? Is the bulb installed improperly ? Is there water inside the bulb socket or tail light ?

I had a similar issue with the brake lights(both driver & passenger) staying on even after car is turned off and brake pedal released. After searching, I found an old thread in this forum started by "97SS".
Sure enough, there were broken plastic pieces on the floor and the "brake switch stop pad" was missing. I bought Dorman 2-pc pack but the white pad just fell out(too small). But the black piece(a little softer than white plastic) stayed on.
It fixed the problem on my 1987 CRX Si!
