Hey guys, so I fixed the CEL my car had (see previous post) by soldering in a new connector. I also cleaned out my IACV and fixed a vacuum leak I found. When starting the car up, she idles normally at first but when I give it gas, the RPMs just drop and car idles very low and dies.
I adjusted the throttle cable nut enough to hopefully give the car gas to idle well after revving but that just made the car idle very high. I could not find a comfortable medium when adjusting, it was either still not ample enough and car would die after revving or it would not die but car would be idling around 2k (estimate based on sound, no tach).
Air filter is still clean, haven’t checked out carb yet. I swapped the spark plugs and wires, now the car seems to be more healthy but still bogs after revving BUT does NOT die! This is progress, but I need help finding out what is causing this. I have a new fuel filter coming in and have a spare distributor I have not yet tried. Any help/ suggestions would be appreciated.
(I also lowered her and she looks so much better!)
First set the idle as per the service manual. Do not mess with the throttle cable - it should have a little slack. You will want to get a multimeter with a tachometer setting to see the actual engine speed.
If that works, great.
Otherwise, you will want to confirm the mechanical timing - timing marks on camshaft and crank, and the timing at the distributor. Do you have a timing light? A simple timing light with a trigger will work.
Below is a is a picture of the idle setting steps for the 1.5l:

I will refer to my manual to adjust the idle today. I unfortunately don’t have a timing light but I will be able to check the timing marks at the very least. Thanks for the reply!
