Starter runs but car won’t turn on
My car was idling while i was dropping a friend off and as soon as he shut the door I heard the engine cut out but all the electronics stayed on. Since then every time I try to crank the engine the starter runs but the engine won’t turn on. I’ve double check that I have gas and the battery works, so i’m not sure if something got knocked loose or what but nothing i’ve tried works.
If your car is still stock and obd0 then if you lift up the carpet from the passenger side floor there's a metal cover over the ecu. Should only show codes if your check engine light is on though I would think. If your car is a 88/89 there's a service check connector under the hood on the drivers side. It should be a clear plug with a yellowish boot on it and it runs with wires mid way between the firewall and the head light near the center fender bolt. If yours is a 90/91, there's the connector (blue I think) that hangs down under near the glove box/door jam area. Bridge the connector with a metal jumper (paper clip/cotter pin) and it will make your ecu flash the codes - if any, with the key in the on position but not start. The ecu has a red LED in it and a little view window for it. Long solid blink is 10 digits and short flashes are single digits. Example - 2 solid long blinks with a short quick blink would be code 21..
Strange that it died like you said..
Check all connections and grounds you can find making sure they are clean and tight. Check your fuses too..
Make sure your getting fuel, test for spark and hopefully in the end when you do find the problem it's was something easy.
Your worst case scenario would be the timing belt braking.

the codes will remain in the ECU until physically removed by disconnecting power to the ECU - the Check Engine Light will go off when the ignition is turned off but codes remain
