Default I need help

My car is making a weird noise when I try to start it. It has a new starter everything is torqued down and it still makes the sound. It’s a b20 with ls transmission. If you know anything please let me know I need help

Sounds like the starter gear and flywheel gear are not meshing. Did it work normally at some point, or is this a new build?

its not a new build, it worked before then the starter went out and it started making this sound and doing this when I replaced it. I had them test the new one when it came in and it passed 2 times.

I would definitely try turning the motor by hand using a socket on the crank pulley to make sure it spins freely..

It sounds like the starter is doing what it should be. When you had the starter out, did you notice any marking or damage to the teeth on the flywheel?

I haven't heard of it happening, but maybe the starter ring gear became detached from the flywheel somehow.

the starter has marking where it looks like it’s engaging. And the flywheel looks fine when I turn it.

It sounds like its not engaging at all and just grinding on something, or something is spinning freely that shouldn't be.

Run a wire from the starter switch terminal on the starter to +12V and engage the starter while watching it from the engine bay. You won't see much, but it may provide some clues as to what is happening.

It may be a good idea as well to get the bottom engine/trans inspection plate off and have someone crank it while watching it.
