1st gen crx vs 5th or 6th gen civic hatch handling/cornering potential
Which do you guys think could handle turns and corner better between the 1st gen crx and 5th or 6th gen civic hatch. Would the difference not be too noticeable? Anyone who has had both id love to hear. I plan on getting aftermarket sway bars, torsion bars, 3 point front strut bar, possibly one for the back but this will be my daily driver, coil-overs, 205/45-16 continental dws 06 plus tires ( the 06 plus are the best rated all season tires for lap time) with 16x7" rims that weigh 15lbs, may get camber kits but id only do .5 degrees strictly for better handling, will also change out all the bushings and what not. Only plan on lowering it .25"-.5" max due to the roads being pretty bumpy out here.
I hear integras handle best, then 2nd gen crx, then 5/6th gen civic hatchs but I just wanted to get feed back from more people and im sure there are more people now who have owned both than back in these 2004, 2009, 2017, etc forums I see. Im only interested in these 3 because theyre light and I dont want to have/put any engine that gets worse mpg than the D16y8 (6th gen EX's come with them for those who dont know) and anything larger than that could effect the handling I hear.
So my friends landlord has a 1985 crx si, 5 speed, 143000 miles, just about stock. I took it for a drive on an old hw near me with lots of turns and compared to my 95 del sol s it didn't seem to handle as well. granted i had my del sol for at least 5 months so I really got used to it and was comfortable pushing it around turns quickly and with the crx I didn't want to push the limits, but the wheels seemed to chirp pretty easy and felt like it could go sliding easier. The del sol also had 205/50-15 tires (the crx i drove had 185/60-14 i believe) but besides that I believe they were both stock. the crx is 145-400ish lbs lighter, an inch or so lower but doesn't have double wish bone suspension or the same aftermarket support. I plan on swapping in a d16y8 into which ever one i get but if i go crx I may hold off on that for a while because its plenty of power for these sharp roads. So what do you guys think has the most potential and will it be a noticeable difference? Thank you all
(Also, Ive never had a chance to drive and EG or EK but i assume the handle close to the same due to the del sol S being 48" tall and the EG being 52" and EK being 54" tall i believe) And before people say go with a second gen crx believe me, I have been looking, there are so few here, the closest ones are 3+ hours away in the city ( around SF/bay area or farther south) 9/10 either are salvage titles, wont pass smog or are just shells. The second gen (specifically the 88's) is the most desirable for me but its so hard to find a good one and get down to it before its sold. And the CRX im looking at isnt posted and no one besides me and my friend knows hes selling it.
