1992 EG Hatch Manual Steering Rack Bushings
I have a 1992 EG Hatch with the original manual steering rack and bushings, and am looking for replacement options. I'd like something that tightens up the rack and removes the slop, but not wanting to feel every vibration through the steering wheel. Anyone have options that have worked?
Thanks

How are the condition of your inner and outer tie rods? There are 2 bushings in the rack that are a pain to change. It will make you want to buy a new rack if you try fighting with them, especially putting the new bushing sleeves in. I think there is a bolt you can adjust to put a slight bit more tension on it to help with slop but don't really recommend messing with it. I would just start with just replacing the tie rods which should help alot. One thing to make it easy is to drop the rack to replace the inner's. It will be a headache to do on the car. Just unbolt the rotating flex knuckle from the steering column shaft to steering rack shaft(both bolts) and slide it up and tape it up. Remove the exhaust and linkage then turn the wheels all the way to the left so it sucks in the drivers side close to the rack so you can fish it out. Should all come out as 1 piece. Measure everything first before taking anything off so you can put it back together relatively close then get a alignment.
