Default '83 Civic Carb Swap?

Just bought an '83 civic 4 door sedan, 1.5L w/5 speed manual... Carb is cracked. My understanding is the stock carb was a Keihin and prob not made any longer (not that I can find). So, looks like I need to find a replacement. Any recommendations? I thought I saw someone where someone had swapped to a Weber but not sure what model number or the choke situation.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

The DGV weber carb kits that are commercially available really don't work well on the CVCC head of first or second gen civics. If you research what that system does, you will figure out why deleting the carb that feeds the cvcc chamber is defeating the purpose. Sourcing a used carb and having it rebuilt by a person who knows what they are doing makes the most sense. A lot of 70s civic owners are just swapping in a fuel injected D16 and stand alone harness. More power, more parts and a better solution if you are keeping the car.

I have an 83 wagon wit h a weber on it, and it starts faster than most fuel injected cars. Runs perfect and there are no issues. You have to make sure to set it up correctly, and have the timing set right.

There is always one person who misses the point completely while thinking the know more. The dgv makes a cvcc usless. If you understand how it works you could see that. The float orientation is wrong too causing fuel cut out issues on high g corners. Putting around town with a wagon probably doesn't get close to that though. Even king motorsport had a blurb about how bad DGV carbs were in the 80s catalog.

What's really funny is, I have been a tech for over 30 years and rebuilt more carbs than you could ever know, on multiple brands. You are armchair quarterbacking without being here and actually seeing it work flawlessly. Go back to keyboard warrior status and leave the adults alone Mr. Expert.

What a moron. Sounds like your just happy your POS starts... now your PO'ed someone called out your ignorance. Really if you have been working on cars of any type for 30 years, you should be able to look at the CVCC system and then look at the weber and see what it does to defeat it.

So, after I got done laughing at that last post, I decided to answer. I was trying to help the OP, and give him real world input and experience. I'm pretty confident anyone reading this thread will see who the ignorant one is. Cheers.

I have an Keihin carb. From my 83 1500 S. pretty certain that this isn't the correct motor in the car as it wasn't supposed to have cvcc. Let me know if you still need one.

There was a CVCC 1.487 (EM1) engine in the 1983 Civic. That MIGHT be the same engine the OP is talking about.

In any event, there should be lots of places selling re-built CVCC carbs for the '83 -- if that's what it is -- as Don suggested.
